Pitso Mosimane has opened up about a ‘consultancy’ role that he has been playing at ambitious club Royal AM.

Recently, Pitso Mosimane clearly indicated that he has no intention to rush into another coaching job after leaving Al Ahly. He memorably enjoyed a famed coaching career with Mamelodi Sundowns, and was involved as national caretaker coach for seven games in 2007.

Mosimane went on to join Al Ahly in a high-profile move and won several title in Egypt before prematurely opting out of his new contract. He has now finally received his CAF Pro Licence. The certificate was handed to Mosimane by the South African Football Association (SAFA) president Dr Danny Jordaan in a press conference on Thursday.

Mosimane and his technical team already announced in July that they were launching the Pitso Mosimane Masterclass series, and they have been spending time with Royal AM ahead of their CAF Champions League debut this season.

“We share information. We’ve been in the Champions League for the last 12 years. [we share] What have we done and what we’ve seen. The success we had and the failures we had. Some of these failures and successes are beyond your control. But some are in your control,” he told journalists, as quoted by KickOff.com.

“I know what happened to Supersport United when they went to the final of the Confed Cup?  I think you know where they finished [in the league]. What happened to Bidvest Wits when they went to the champions league?

“What happened to Kaizer Chiefs when they went to the final with Al Ahly? Where did they finish in the log that year? So we can go on and go on. Be very careful of the CAF interclubs. So we’re sharing the information to say we’ve done this before and did it right,” he concluded.

Mosimane has recently made it clear that he would consider pursuing a role with a strong national team where he would stand a chance of winning the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

“We always have offers,” he said as quoted by TimesLive. “The hold-up was for me to take a bit of a break — 21 years, I have always spoken about the sabbatical, which I never took.

“Now I got my chance. I feel good, I feel happy to be home. The feet will always itch, but there must also be the right project. You don’t just leave the team that you know you will go to the Champions League final with three times in a row and take it to the World Cup to mix with the Bayern Munichs and Chelseas, and suddenly go anywhere else. Then what’s in it for you?

“Yes, offers are there. But it must be the right project and I’m open. Even national teams. Because maybe the only thing I haven’t won on the continent is the Afcon, so why not?…

“We look for projects that are good — it’s not about how much you’re being paid. And there are good projects. Teams that have the opportunity to win the Afcon.

“And probably [it will be] there, because, OK, with our ego maybe the medal is the one I want to win.”

In the latest edition of iDiski Times, it’s reported that current CAF Champions League holders, Wydad Casablanca, could show interest in securing the services of Mosimane, although it’s no clear if formal contact has been made yet.

Interestingly, Wydad Athletic Club head coach Walid Regragui has now resigned after just one season despite leading the Moroccan giants to the double last season.

Mosimane is reportedly also wanted in Iraq, with reports from that part of the world suggesting he is one of three coaches shortlisted for the top national job.

Portuguese mentor Antonio Conceicao, who coached the Cameroon national team, and ex-France national team Bernard Cosoni are the other names linked with the Iraq position.

It remains to be seen where Pitso could coach next

Interestingly, Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe has recently provided serious backing for Mosimane to coach Bafana Bafana again.

“I wish Pitso Mosimane could coach Bafana Bafana. He is my favourite coach and I love him. He will always have a special place in my heart and I will even get the Motsepe Foundation to subsidise his salary. I think he is quality, and quality should not come cheap,” said Motsepe.
