Although Pitso Mosimane had just penned a new two-year deal with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, he dramatically requested clearance to leave the club after recent meetings earlier this month.

Mosimane would surely have not requested to leave Al Ahly if he had no options and possible offers in front of him, though. As it is, he will reportedly have big-money job offers to consider around the world.

The veteran coach previously indicated that there are new opportunities for African coaches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and this could be his first option.

Mosimane enjoyed a famed coaching career with Mamelodi Sundowns, and was involved as national caretaker coach for seven games in 2007.

However, he has interestingly commented on social media to suggest his reasons for returning to South Africa were primarily due to family reasons, and it appears that the veteran coach may not necessarily rush into a new job.

“Al Ahly did not fire me or push me to go. I have big respect for President Khatib and the entire board including all the supporters of Al Ahly. I will always cherish all our trophy celebrations,” Pitso commented on Twitter.

“I have memories & archived (banners, chants of me at the stadiums). Unfortunately I decided to come home, (because) I needed this rest with my family. You now have an experienced European coach. Everybody should support and I believe he will leave the jersey at a higher place than he got it.”

It remains to be seen where Pitso could coach next

Interestingly, Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe has recently provided serious backing for Mosimane to coach Bafana Bafana again.

“I wish Pitso Mosimane could coach Bafana Bafana. He is my favourite coach and I love him. He will always have a special place in my heart and I will even get the Motsepe Foundation to subsidise his salary. I think he is quality, and quality should not come cheap,” said Motsepe.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with TimesLIVE, Mosimane’s manager – and wife – Moira Tlhagale revealed that there are certainly no shortage of options.

“I got a lot of calls from different international and domestic [SA] clubs that are interested in coach Pitso Mosimane but it’s important to clarify on the record that we have not signed anything with anyone.

“Interest is both international and domestic with three local SA teams that want the services of the coach.

“We have not gone into too much detail with anyone in terms of negotiations. Some of the teams that called wanted to confirm if he has signed with anyone already.

“This is because there have been reports in the media saying that he has been linked or signed with certain clubs but that is not correct at all.”
