Club World Cup: Who are Al Ahly’s opponents for the final match in Qatar?

Al Ahly will be playing their final match of the FIFA Club World Cup on Thursday, and their opponents are relatively a closed book to them.

Al Ahly will be playing their final match of the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup on Thursday, and their opponents are relatively a closed book to them.

The Egyptian giants take on Palmeiras with a third-place and a bronze medal at stake after losing to Bayern Munich in the semi-finals earlier this week.

Al Ahly lost their semi-final clash 2-0 to Bayern while Palmeiras suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Tigres UANL in their Club World Cup previous match.

But who are Palmeiras?

The Brazilian outfit was founded in 1914 as Palestra Italia they changed their name to Palmeiras in 1942.

They play their home games in Allianz Parque just outside Sao Paolo.

Palmeiras’ traditional colours are green and white, and they are one of the most successful clubs in Brazil with close to 50 major trophies to their name.

The trophies include the Campeonato Paulista titles between 1920 and 2020.

Palmeiras won the Campeonato Paulista without beaten on three separate occasions in 1926, 1932 and 1972.

They hold the record for the most Campeonato Brasileiro titles (10) and have been dubbed the greatest champions.

Their biggest rivals are Sao Paolo and Corinthians in the Brazilian top-flight.

Palmeiras’ danger man is Luiz Adriano; a 33-year-old striker who played for Shakhtar Donetsk, AC Milan, and Spartak Moscow in Europe.

The match between Al Ahly and Palmeiras is scheduled for 5PM SA time.
