Rumour alert: Chiefs star linked to Pitso’s Al-Ahli

There are ongoing rumours that Khama Billiat is unlikely to remain with Chiefs after this season, and an overseas move could be on the cards.

Increasingly it has seemed that Khama Billiat is facing an uncertain future at Kaizer Chiefs in the midst of an injury issue and soon-to-be-expired contract.

Billiat, who is a former PSL Player of the Year, has endured a tumultuous time of ups and downs at Kaizer Chiefs ever since heading to the club in 2018 from Sundowns.

Injuries and poor form have prevented Chiefs fans from seeing the best of Billiat on a consistent basis, while his latest contract is set to come to an end in June.

In what is certainly a notable article that emerged from Sunday World this past weekend, it’s reported that Billiat may have already been offered to Pitso Mosimane’s Saudi Arabia club Al-Ahli.

Of course, Mosimane and Billiat do know each other well, with the popular coach having recruited the midfielder to Mamelodi Sundowns back in 2013.

This is certainly one story that is worth keeping an eye on, with a Sunday World source stating that one way or another “his [Billiat’s] contract will definitely not be renewed [by Chiefs]”.

Recently, Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane was asked about Billiat’s future, and he was giving nothing away.

“Look, everything boils down to one thing; profiling players, the plan for next season,” Zwane said on Monday as quoted by Soccer Laduma. “I am not going to say who is going to be part of the team next season or who is not going to be part of the team. We don’t know as we stand, only time will tell.

“Khama is a big boy, he understands that things do happen in football. Some of the things are beyond our control. We’re just hoping that things will change for the better.

“We have been encouraging him but not only him. [Eric] Mathoho has been in a similar situation where he has been battling with injuries. [Phathutshedzo] Nange, Cole Alexander, they are going through it and they are dealing with it because the team is also offering help psychologically.”

BILLIAT IS OUT FOR THE REST OF CHIEFS’ SEASON

Just recently, Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons were the latest to be added to the injury list, while Billiat and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo have undergone surgery.

“Currently, our injury list consists of Khama Billiat, who had surgery to repair a torn groin muscle. He’ll be out for the rest of the season,” club physiotherapist, David Milner, recently commented. “Nkosingiphile Ngcobo tore a thigh muscle and needed quite extensive surgery on it. He’ll be out for about three to four months.

“Reeve Frosler had a fracture to his jaw which then had to get wired together. He’ll be out for between six and eight weeks. Dillan Solomons dislocated his left shoulder. It looks like he’ll be able to be treated conservatively and we expect him to be back in four to six weeks.”

On a more positive note, Cole Alexander should soon be back.
