The result left them far closer to the relegation zone than to trying to chase down runaway leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. The big picture is that Chiefs have 28 points which is five fewer than second-placed SuperSport United. Maritzburg United are 15th at present but are just seven points adrift of Amakhosi.

The technical staff are hard at work

Motaung Jr is confident that the Chiefs board of directors would “support their young coach with resources” like players in the transfer market.

“Anyone who has experience got it by doing their job,” said Motaung Jr.

He believes that there is a positive to take hold of in that there was a “short turnaround time in the type of football Zwane plays”.

Counting the positives under Zwane

“It is not a good situation to be in. but at the same time, there have been many positives,” he added.

“We’re sitting with an 18-year-old Mduduzi Shabalala, who just scored [in the 3-2 loss against Golden Arrows].

“He has immense talent, and it speaks to a lot of the planning in terms of our academy and recruitment.

“We have had to integrate them into the first team. I think looking forward, the only way we can rectify this is to get results and change the tide,” added Motaung Jr.

League standing a ‘no-brainer’ for Chiefs

“We are not happy with having lost eight games and being in fifth place,” Motaung Jr said during the Soweto Derby Press Conference.
