CAF: Kaizer Chiefs handed nightmare Champions League path – Draw in full

Kaizer Chiefs have been drawn against the Cameroonian Champions in the preliminary CAF Champions League round. Draw in full below

The draws for both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup took place in Cairo this afternoon with four top flight South African sides participating.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs will be representing South Africa in the CAF Champions League while Orlando Pirates and Bloemfontein Celtic will participating in the CAF Confederations Cup.

Both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates were exempted from the preliminary round draw thanks to their continental ranking however their next qualifying round opponents were also named.

Kaizer Chiefs to travel to Cameroon for CAF Champions League opener

Kaizer Chiefs were dealt a tough opening round draw in the form of Cameroon Premiership Champions PWD Bamenda. Bamenda beat Cameroonian giants Coton Sport to the league title last season and will undoubtedly prove a difficult test for the misfiring Amakhosi.

Should Kaizer Chiefs overcome the Cameroon defending champions, another tricky task awaits in the form of Angolan giants Premiero De Agosto in the next round.

Bloemfontein Celtic draw DR Congo log leaders

Bloemfontein Celtic were also handed a tricky CAF Confederations Cup fixture first up after drawing DR Congo side AS Maniema. Maniema finished the 2019/20 campaign in third place behind Champions TP Mazembe and runners-up AS Vita Club.

CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup draws in full

Mamelodi Sundowns who were exempted from the CAF Champions League’s preliminary round will face the winner between Botswana’s Jwaneng FC and Comoros’ US Zilimadjou in the next round for a place in the group stages.

Orlando Pirates who were also exempted from the preliminary round will face the winner between Angolan outfit GDSE and Eswatini FC in the first qualifying round of the CAF Confederations Cup for a place in this season’s group stages.
