Al Ahly, who are the tournament’s defending champions, scored twice in the last 10 minutes to grab a 2-2 draw and qualify for the quarter-finals having trailed 2-0 at half-time.

They picked up an 81st-minute goal by Badr Benoun from the penalty spot and then Yasser Ibranhim scored in the fourth minute of extra-time to secure their spot in the last 8.

The draw, coupled with Simba SC’s 4-1 win over AS Vita Club, means Simba SC will now top the group no matter what happens in the final round of fixtures next weekend.

Simba SC have 13 points, with Al Ahly second on eight.

AS Vita Club have four with Al-Merrikh on two points.

Al Ahly will host Simba SC next Friday, 9 April in their final group match.

The draw will do nothing to silence Pitso Mosimane’s growing number of detractors.
