Pitso Mosimane sends message to Al Ahly fans amid departure rumours

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has expressed his excitement ahead of the start of the 2021/22 CAF Champions League while also confirming he’s staying with the Egyptian giants.

Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has expressed his excitement ahead of the start of the 2021/22 CAF Champions League while also confirming he’s staying with the Egyptian giants.

In 64 total matches in charge since joining Al Ahly in October last year, Mosimane has lost just five times – and helped the club win several trophies.

Mosimane won the CAF Champions League final against arch-rivals Zamalek as well as the Egypt Cup shortly thereafter.

He then went on to finish third in the Club World Cup and lifted the CAF Super Cup before winning his second consecutive CAF Champions League – all in a span of five months!

However, the 57-year-old still came under fire having failed to retain the Egyptian Premier League title (losing out to Zamalek) before a shock defeat in the Egyptian Super Cup against minnows Tala’a El-Gaish.

While his achievements have greatly outweighed his failures, Pitso Mosimane has remained the subject of criticism and rumours regarding his departure from the club.

Al Ahly have in recent days come out to rubbish those rumours and have assured Mosimane that he will remain in Cairo until the end of his contract which expires in June 2022.

What happens after that date remains to be seen.

Mosimane confirmed this news with a tweet in which he expressed his desire to win the CAF Champions League title for the third consecutive year.

“I am very excited that our journey towards achieving the 3rd CAF Champions League title in a row starts on Saturday in Niger,” Mosimane tweeted.

“We are focused on the prize ahead and ready to once again conquer the CAF Champions League tournament.”

Al Ahly will take on Union Sportive de la Gendarmerie Nationale of Niger in their first-leg CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie on Saturday, 16 October at 17:30 SA time.

The return leg in Egypt is scheduled for Saturday, 23 October at 18:00 SA time.
