Pitso Mosimane and Al Ahly were met by the predicted hostility from a large portion of Mamelodi Sundowns fans however there was a fraction of the crowd that warmly embraced him.

Earlier, Pitso Mosimane and Al Ahly’s arrival at the FNB stadium ahead of this afternoon’s CAF Champions League clash against Mamelodi Sundowns was delayed to due to protesting fans.

“Mamelodi Sundowns’ fans stopped the bus carrying Al Ahly’s first team while en route to FNB Stadium for the game against Mamelodi Sundowns, scheduled at 3:00 PM, in the fourth fixture of the CAF Champions League group stage,” the club’s statement read as quoted by Kick-off.

“The lack of organization and the shortage in the South African police officers, who are responsible to secure our journey to the stadium, caused a disruption.

“The head of our delegation to South Africa, Mohamed Shawky, the club’s board members, Hossam Ghaly and Tarek Kandil, and Sayed Abdelhafiz, the team’s director of football, had to leave the bus to talk with the South African officials to open the barriers to avoid any delay.

“In the end, our team had to take another route to the stadium, which forced us to arrive late ahead of this important game.

The game is bigger than the four of us – Pitso Mosimane

“At our level, with our experience, it is not about outsmarting Mamelodi Sundowns’ coaches. The game is way bigger than the four of us.” – Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane said.

“It is a game for Al Ahly, and it is a game for Sundowns; it has nothing to do with us as coaches. We are just directing the teams on the game, supporting the players.

“For me, where I am in my career, there is nothing for me to be competing or trying to outsmart Manqoba, Rulani or Steve. I have respect for them and Mamelodi Sundowns. I am not in that space of outsmarting to feel better about myself.

“You have to imagine what is Al Ahly, it’s the biggest club in the continent. And I am not talking about when it was established, in terms of history. I am talking about also the titles and support base.

“Name me one team in the continent that has 70 million people looking at you every day, every match.”
