Al-Merrikh are yet to play their opening match – which was set to take place last weekend against Al Ahly – as the Red Devils were competing in the Club World Cup in the UAE.

Al-Merrikh were drawn in the ‘Group of Death’ along with Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly and fellow Sudan rivals Al-Hilal.

As a result, the club approached Al Ahly to gauge whether they could play their matches at the Al-Salam WE Stadium in Cairo – and Al Ahly approved their request in an official statement.

It wouldn’t have been a difficult decision for Al Ahly to make as they will now play both their ‘home’ and ‘away’ matches against Al-Merrikh at ‘home’.

“As part of the tight historical relations between Sudan and Egypt, Al Ahly SC accepted Al Merrikh SC’s request to play their home games of the CAF Champions League group stage at Al Ahly WE Al Salam Stadium,” Al Ahly published on their official website.

“The club’s board of directors also made sure to state that Al Ahly is willing to offer any kind of support needed to the Sudanese team (Al Merrikh) during their time in Egypt.”

The Al-Merrikh versus Mamelodi Sundowns CAF Champions League clash will take place on Saturday, 19 February at 15:00 SA time.
