Mamelodi Sundowns continue to set the bar high in continental football and they made history when they defeated TP Mazembe over a week ago.

The Brazilians beat the Lubumbashi-based giants 1-0 in the CAF Champions League, and as a result, they became the first South African team to win four group stage matches in a row.

Sundowns also became only the fourth team in Africa to do so after ES Tunis, Hearts of Oak and USM Alger.

ES Tunis set the record for four consecutive wins in the group stages of the CAF Champions League in 1999.

That record was matched by Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak during the 2000 edition of the CAF Champions League.

It then took 15 years for the record to be matched again as USM Alger only achieved it in 2015.

Now, Sundowns have engraved their name in the history books of the CAF Champions League, and it will be interesting to see if they can stretch their run of wins to further and possibly finish the group stages with a 100 percent record.

Sundowns and their technical team should be proud of this latest feat because even African teams such as Al Ahly, Wydad Casablanca, and Zamalek among others are yet to win four consecutive matches despite their huge success in the competition.
