Kaizer Chiefs latest | Amakhosi can be hopeful of avoiding defeat v Wydad

Kaizer Chiefs have a mammoth task ahead of them with Saturday’s CAF Champions League match against Wydad Casablanca a must-win for them.

Kaizer Chiefs have a mammoth task ahead of them with Saturday’s CAF Champions League match against Wydad Casablanca certainly a must-win for them.

Amakhosi are currently placed third on the Group C log, tied on five points with second-placed Horoya AC with two group matches to go.

Their final group match will be against Horoya AC who face bottom-placed Petro de Luanda in the other match with an expectation that they will pocket maximum points.

And for Chiefs, the clash against Wydad is important to the extent that if they fail to at least avoid defeat then chances of them advancing to the quarter-finals would be minimal.

However, Amakhosi have a reason to be hopeful and here is why…

Chiefs may have not done exceptionally well in the CAF Champions League history but they have been solid and not easily intimidated in recent matches.

The Glamour Boys are unbeaten in eight of their last nine CAF Champions League matches – with their only defeat (in those nine matches) coming at the hands of Wydad away from home.

Prior to that, Chiefs had last lost to ASEC Mimosas in the 2016 edition of the competition.

Since then, they have recorded five draws, three wins and suffered a single defeat.

In addition, Chiefs are unbeaten at home this season as their record reads three draws and a win in their last four CAF Champions League home matches.

Interestingly, Chiefs have kept four clean sheets in as many home matches – and these are the positives they should take to the Wydad match on Saturday.
