The second preliminary rounds of CAF inter-club competitions were concluded this past weekend, meaning there is one round to play before the group stages.

As expected, Mamelodi Sundowns advanced to the next round of the CAF Champions League following their massive 15-1 aggregate win over La Passe on Friday.

The Brazilians are the only South African team left in the CAF Champions League after Cape Town City crashed out on Saturday.

Eric Tinkler’s men lost 4-0 on aggregate to Zambian giants ZESCO United, and this meant the end of the road for them in the competition.

The good news, though, is that South Africa still have two teams in the CAF Confederation Cup after both Marumo Gallants and Royal AM did enough to advance.

Gallants beat Elgeco Plus 1-0 on Saturday to advance to the playoff round of the competition with a 4-1 aggregate win.

Royal AM, on the other hand, played to a 1-1 draw away to ZESCO United on Saturday, and the result saw them book a place in the playoff round.
