CAF Confederation Cup result: Orlando Pirates grab late winner to beat Nigeria’s Enyimba

Orlando Pirates have drawn with Nigerian side Enyimba at the Orlando Stadium in their second CAF Confederation Cup match in Group A.

Orlando Pirates have beaten Nigerian side Enyimba at the Orlando Stadium in their second CAF Confederation Cup match in Group A.

AS IT HAPPENED: ORLANDO PIRATES V ENYIMBE

The Buccaneers opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Namibian Deon Hotto found the back of the net.

However, Enyimba equalised in first-half stoppage time from the penalty spot thanks to Austin Oladapo after a yellow card foul by goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane.

The first half ended 1-1.

In the 89th minute Tshegofatso Mabasa scored the winner for the home side having earlier missed a penalty.

Earlier, Orlando Pirates started their group stage campaign with a goalless draw away to Algeria’s ES Setif which was played at a neutral venue in Ghana due to Covid-19 concerns.

Josef Zinnbauer’s side now boast a nine-match unbeaten run across all competitions, with their last defeat dating back to the beginning of February away to Golden Arrows.

They will next be in action in a mouth-watering Soweto derby against rivals Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, 20 March.

Kick-off at the FNB Stadium is at 15:00.
