Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic has described the clubs impending CAF Champions League final as a “dream come true” while speaking to its website.

Nurkovic missed the start of the season for Chiefs

Nurkovic, who was injured for a huge chunk of the previous DStv Premiership as well as CAF Champions League preliminary rounds, came back to devastating effect for Chiefs during the later stages of the Champions League, playing a starring role in leading the club to the final.

He has since played a vital role in the club’s run

The Serbian hitman boasts crucial strikes in both the quarterfinals and semifinals of the Champions League against Simba SC of Tanzania and Raja Casablanca of Morocco respectively. Those goals would’ve undoubtedly further endeared Nurkovic to the Chiefs faithful and a similar feat in the final would go a long way in solidifying legendary status for him at the club.

Nurkovic has been speaking to the Chiefs media recently and has stated just how much this fixture will mean to both him and the club.

Meaning of the game to both him and Chiefs

“It’s an amazing feeling for me, honestly, to qualify for the CAF Champions League final,” Nurkovic said in an interview with Chiefs.

“When I was a kid, I was always dreaming to play in such big games and that dream is going to come true. I can’t wait to play that game.

“It means a lot to me and my career because, since I have started playing football, this is something that I was working hard for and I really can’t wait for that game to start.”

“Also, it means a lot for the club as well and I’m really happy to be part of such a big team like Kaizer Chiefs. It’s just the second year for me of being part of this big club and it’s a really big achievement,” continued Nurkovic

Meaning of the fixture to the country at large

Nurkovic was also mindful that it wasn’t just the Chiefs fans that would be represented here, but the general South African public.

“I mean, for sure, it means a lot for all of South Africa, especially to all our Amakhosi family out there, amazing fans and I am really happy that I can be part of this history and be part of this big club and to be able to represent South Africa [in the final] as well.”

Nurkovic also admitted that Chiefs will respect their opponents Al Ahly in the final, but he was more concerned about he and his team-mates prepare themselves either than looking at the opposition.

“I’m really not trying to think a lot about other teams. All we have to do is respect them and stay focused, work hard and prepare ourselves well for the game,” he said.

The 29-year-old Nurkovic then left a message for the Chiefs faithful ahead of the fixture

Message to the Chiefs fans

“One thing that we are missing the most in the stadiums is our amazing supporters, the Amakhosi family, I really hope they are all well and safe at home and I hope that I am going to see them soon in the stadiums. Amakhosi for life.”
