AmaZulu have rubbished reports of a shock exit for coach Benni McCarthy, calling it ‘fake news’.

AmaZulu are in a race against time to land ‘marquee’ signing according to head coach Benni McCarthy.

Usuthu will be competing in the CAF Champions League for the very first time after finishing as last season’s DStv Premiership runner’s-up and Benni McCarthy is hoping to land a South American star.

The PSL transfer deadline closes tomorrow meaning AmaZulu have just a few hours to complete the signing of 27-year-old Argentinian forward Facundo Juarez however McCarthy admitted the club will likely have to wait until January to sign the star.

Facundo Juarez plays in the second division in Argentina for Atletico Mitre and we have some footage on the tricky attacker that has Benni McCarthy’s AmaZulu praying for him below.

“Obviously he was the star signing, the marquee signing that I wanted. But unfortunately, we learnt last minute that he still had six more months on his deal and their coach didn’t want to lose the player,” – Benni McCarthy told SAFJA.

“Our plans got kicked out a little bit with trying to bring him now at the start of the season. He is the ideal player that I wanted, and I think he would have made a massive difference in the team – goals and everything, he has got the works.

“I (Benni McCarthy) am still hopeful that the club can still back me in that decision. If we don’t find a recognised striker now before the window closes, then I will definitely wait until December to bring this player in and we can go for the jugular. He is a player that I love very much, has got great tenacity, has an aura about him and the experience of playing in South America. He has come highly recommended.”

Benni McCarthy’s AmaZulu are next in action on 10 September 2021 when they face Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets in what will be their CAF Champions League debut.
