Al Ahly’s Mosimane urges ex-Kaizer Chiefs coach Hunt to join him!

Al Ahly’s Pitso Mosimane has urged ex-Kaizer Chiefs mentor Gavin Hunt to join him in north Africa as he continues his search for a new club.

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has urged former Kaizer Chiefs mentor Gavin Hunt to join him in north Africa as he continues his search for a new club.

Hunt hasn’t been attached to any team since leaving Chippa United in December 2021 despite being one of the most respected coaches in South Africa.

Mosimane acknowledged all the successes Hunt achieved over the last 30 years of his coaching career, and feels the four-time PSL winner needs a change of environment.

Hunt recently returned from Manchester City where he spent some time with their technical team in an attempt to equip himself with knowledge.

And while Mosimane believes in Hunt as a coach, he warned him that coaching in north Africa, especially in Egypt, is very tough.

Mosimane is talking from experience as he’s always found himself under immense pressure since joining Al Ahly despite bringing back the old glory days at the ‘Club of the Century’.

“Gavin Hunt, big respect for you. You have won all SA trophies. History archived. Come feel the waters in this region where I am (tough though) and you might like it,” wrote Mosimane on Twitter.

“When we day off, I will ask my friend’s Yacht to take us over the Mediterranean for fishing and dolphin watching,” said Mosimane.

Not too many South African coaches have been exposed to coaching in other African countries – Mosimane paved the way for the likes of Cavin Johnson and most recently Roger de Sa in Egypt.

Johnson was Mosimane’s assistant for a season before the former parted ways with Al Ahly while De Sa was recruited by Carlos Queiroz to assist him in the Egyptian national team.
