Hlongwane’s performances for both Maritzburg United and Bafana have not gone unnoticed, with the 21-year-old reportedly attracting interest from Europe, as well as PSL powerhouses Mamelodi Sundowns, Pirates and Chiefs.

A clear favourite of veteran German mentor Ernst Middendorp at Maritzburg, Hlongwane has very rarely let him down with his performances for the Team of Choice.

The speedy forward who is comfortable playing anywhere across the front three, has not only become an undisputed starter for his club, but has also quickly emerged as one of the best youngsters in the DStv Premiership.

Interest in Hlongwane has not slowed down

Soccer Laduma reported back in June that Mamelodi Sundowns were the likely favourites to land the striker, but despite the two clubs apparently holding a verbal agreement on the forward, it appears that instead a move overseas could materialise.

According to Soccer Laduma, sources have indicated that with the MLS transfer window opening in February, a potential move for Hlongwane could come to fruition if it is well received by Maritzburg.
