Bafana Bafana head coach Molefi Ntseki explained the inclusion of Rangers midfielder Bongani Zungu in his latest squad to face Ghana and Sudan later this month.

Zungu has just returned from a suspension by Rangers following his misbehaviour in Scotland where he breached lockdown regulations.

Zungu was caught on camera partying with four of his club teammates in February, and the incident has cast doubt on his future at Rangers.

A section of South African football fans waited with bated breath to see if Zungu would make Ntseki’s squad given their on-and-off relationship.

And Ntseki, who was expected to punish Zungu for his actions by snubbing him, went against the majority’s wish and named the Duduza-born midfielder in his latest squad.

The Bafana Bafana mentor revealed that he respects how Rangers handled the Zungu matter, adding that he had a tough discussion with the player himself after the incident.

“The club had a DC (disciplinary hearing) and decided to address it (Zungu’s behaviour) in the way they have, and he was in the team in the Europa League,” Ntseki told the media.

“We respect the independence of the club, but because he is a national team player, we had to address the issue.”

“I spoke to Bongani after the DC, and he explained what happened. Hopefully he has learned,” he said.

Furthermore, Ntseki said he reprimanded Zungu for his Instagram post where he claimed people were building walls to block his path.

What Ntseki told Zungu was that he’s the only one who can block his path if he doesn’t act like the professional he is.

“I saw an Instagram post where he said people were building walls to block his path. I told him that the only person that can block his path is Bongani Zungu,” concluded Ntseki.
