Bongani Zungu’s time at Rangers is up according to reports coming out from Scotland.

The Bafana Bafana midfielder was amongst five players to be placed under temporary suspension after breaking COVID-19 protocols by attending a house party over the weekend.

Bongani Zungu joined Rangers in a blockbuster loan move from relegated Ligue 1 side Amiens in October last year. He however has ultimately failed to leave his mark due to limited game-time under Gerrard.

Bongani Zungu’s suspension comes at the worst possible time with the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder desperate to win a spot in the starting lineup.

Zungu was in contention to feature in the Europa League last-32 clash against Belgium side Antwerp but will miss out after being dropped by Gerrard and placed under isolation.

Bongani Zungu’s time at Rangers looks to be up, and it’s all his own fault

Reports from Scotland suggest that Bongani Zungu will not wear a Rangers jersey again. He was on loan at the club until the end of season and the rumoured punishment for him along with his fellow suspended players are a lengthy suspension until the end of the season.

FootballInsider, the publication that broke the news of Bongani Zungu’s suspension have since claimed that the Bafana Bafana midfielder will not wear a Rangers shirt again if the club go ahead with their planned punishment.

“Bongani Zungu has played his last Rangers game if the club push ahead with plans to suspend the lockdown breachers for the rest of the season.” FootballInsider revealed.

“The party quintet are now self-isolating and can then be expected to be hit with lengthy bans by the Scottish FA.

“Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that club powerbrokers have discussed going even further and suspending the five players for the rest of the season.”

Zungu and co let me down – Gerrard

“First and foremost we have to acknowledge that five of our players have been involved in a breach of the Covid regulations‚ which‚ from the top of the club to the bottom‚ we’re all really disappointed in‚” Bongani Zungu’s coach Steven Gerrard told Rangers TV.

“That will be dealt with internally. The players will be fined. And we are in dailogue with the Scottish FA and the government moving forward to find the solution in terms of them boys.

“They’ve been removed from the squad and the club for now on a short-time basis once they isolate. And I’ll sit down with all them boys face to face once it’s allowed to do so.”

Bongani Zungu has made 16 appearances in total for Gerrard’s side this campaign, 12 of them as a substitute. He has started just four matches across all competitions while league starts have been few and far to come by.

With his loan deal set to come to an end in June 2021 and a possible suspension until then, it is unlikely that he will secure a permanent deal at the club.
