Bongani Zungu joined Scottish giants Rangers FC with high expectations in October 2020 however things have gone bitterly wrong for the Bafana Bafana international.

Not only has Bongani Zungu failed to stamp his authority on the playing field, but off-field controversies may very well have closed a number of doors that were about to open for him.

The Bafana Bafana midfielder joined Steven Gerrard’s Rangers FC on loan until the end of the season from French Ligue 2 outfit Amiens SC with the option of making the deal permanent.

Bongani Zungu fails to make his mark in Scotland

Bongani Zungu featured for Rangers a total of 20 times since joining the club, that doesn’t sound bad at all, does it? From the 20 appearances however, 16 have been cameo performances off the bench.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder made just four starts, two of which coming in cup games. In total, Zungu has featured for just 209 minutes for Rangers during their title winning Scottish Premiership campaign.

Off-field drama leaves Ben 10 out in the cold

Bongani Zungu alongside four of his junior teammates made headlines for all of the wrong reasons at Rangers this season. The above mentioned group were suspended for for breaching Covid-19 regulations in Glasgow last month after attending a party.

Zungu along with his fellow teammates were subject to much criticism following their childish antics and the massive backlash he faced will undoubtedly make finding a new club all the more difficult.
