Simply unbelievable that Benni McCarthy isn’t Bafana coach

It beggars belief that Benni McCarthy isn’t the coach of Bafana Bafana right now and SAFA have questions to answer.

It beggars belief that Benni McCarthy isn’t the coach of Bafana Bafana right now.

McCarthy has now shown SAFA what they missed out on when they favoured Hugo Broos.

Benni McCarthy is a wizard

At Manchester United, McCarthy has played a big role in the turnaround in fortunes.

Some may say that it is coincidental that McCarthy’s arrival lines up with a steady improvement in front of goal for Manchester United.

They may even attribute the return to form of Marcus Rashford to Ten Hag, but that would be generous indeed.

Ten Hag has a tenuous relationship with Rashford with the manager often giving the impression that his star striker needs to be taken down a peg.

Rashford likely relates far more to someone like McCarthy, a prolific talent in his day, and as outspoken as they come.

Not a ‘yes man’

It is that tendency to speak his mind that likely cost McCarthy a role with the national team with SAFA wary of what he might say.

As it turns out they might have been equally concerned about what Hugo Broos would say as he has proven to also be someone who speaks his mind regardless of the consquences.

Broos has made some headway with the side but there is always the sense that he is trying to put square pegs into round holes with his approach to the game.

McCarthy has a far better understanding of the mindset of South African players.

Obviously, as of right now, SAFA aren’t really in a position to fire Hugo Broos having backed him to take the team to at least the next African Cup of Nations.

If Broos fails in that taskit has to be tickets for the Belgian and SAFA should then do whatever it takes to put Benni McCarthy in charge of Bafana.
