Percy Tau’s tug-of-war saga turns NASTY as Al Ahly issue ULTIMATUM!

Al Ahly legend Ahmed Shobeir has claimed that the Egyptian giants threatened to cut ties with Percy Tau if the player insisted on joining the Bafana Bafana camp!

Tau joined Al Ahly in recent months from English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, becoming the Egyptian Premier League’s highest-valued player.

However, he’s yet to make his Red Devils debut as he was injured while playing for Bafana Bafana in their recent 2022 Soccer World Cup qualifiers.

Percy Tau sustained a hamstring injury and he’s currently undergoing a recovery programme before returning to the field of play.

Despite being included in national coach Hugo Broos’ initial 34-man Bafana Bafana squad, Tau are not named in the final 23-man squad on Monday to prepare for back-to-back matches against Ethiopia next month.

Al Ahly club legend turned pundit, Ahmed Shobeir, claimed that Al Ahly had to consider terminating Tau’s contract if he insisted on leaving for international duty.

Speaking on his radio programme on Monday morning, Shobier claimed: “Percy Tau will return to train with Al Ahly again after two weeks, after recovering from his injury.

“Al Ahly had threatened Tau if he joined the South African national team camp, they would terminate his contract,” he added.

Tau will now concentrate on his recovery ahead of Al Ahly’s new season which will start with a clash against Niger’s US Gendarmerie Nationale in the CAF Champions League on Saturday, 15 October.
