Kaizer Chiefs star speaks after latest Bafana Bafana squad snub

Kaizer Chiefs defender Austin Dube has revealed how being snubbed from the most recent Bafana Bafana squad has motivated him to work towards a future call-up.

Kaizer Chiefs defender Austin Dube has revealed how being snubbed from the most recent Bafana Bafana squad has motivated him to work towards a future call-up.

Having starred for Bafana Bafana during their COSAFA Cup triumph earlier this year, Dube earned a move to Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs from Richards Bay FC.

It appeared at the time that he was set for a lengthy stay in the Bafana Bafana starting XI.

However, that has sadly not proved to have been the case for the 28-year-old who was overlooked for the most recent Bafana Bafana squad by coach Hugo Broos which did duty in back-to-back 2022 Soccer World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia.

Thankfully Dube has not been disheartened by his omission and has said his exclusion has motivated him to work even harder in order to secure his spot in the squad for the final two group stage qualifiers against Zimbabwe (home) and Ghana (away) next month.

“That [being left out] was a motivation for me to work even harder so that I can be called to the next Bafana Bafana camp,” Dube told Kaizer Chiefs’ media team, according to the Kickoff website.

“It was a motivation. I have to work hard to be in the national team, I have to work hard to play in the national team.”

Dube has made four DStv Premiership appearances for Kaizer Chiefs this season and will be looking to impress Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos in Amakhosi’s upcoming fixtures, starting on Sunday, 24 October away to SuperSport United.
