Itumeleng Khune may be 34-year-old and nearing the end of his Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana career, but there’s at least ONE national record he currently holds that is likely to never be broken.

Khune hasn’t featured much in recent times for Amakhosi and isn’t part of the current Bafana Bafana squad, but his 91 caps for the national team is a record that is likely to stand for a very long time – if not forever!

The closest two players to that mark – Andre Arendse (67) and Hans Vonk (43) – have both long since hung up their gloves.

Of the active goalkeepers, soon-to-be 30-year-old Ronwen Williams will in all likelihood pick up his 25th cap on Thursday against Zimbabwe in a 2022 Soccer World Cup qualifier.

With Williams the first-choice selection of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, there’s nothing to suggest he will be dropped any time soon.

But 25 caps is light years away from Itumeleng Khune’s 91 and due to the fact Bafana Bafana play so few internationals each year, there’s no chance Williams reaches ‘Spiderman’s’ total before retirement.
