Fish backs Broos to get South Africa back on the big stage

Former Bafana Bafana defender Mark Fish has shown support for the team’s current coach Hugo Broos.

Broos has steadily improved the fortunes of the team despite a controversial failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

Fish feels that if Broos remains at the helm it will be just a matter of time before Bafana Bafana are competing on the global stage and challenging for AFCON glory.

“I think he is doing well and players are doing extremely well, I’m very impressed with the coach throughout the qualifiers,” Fish told Soccer Laduma.

“He has been taking about things we’ve been wanting to hear from national team coach, not even about on the field issues, the reality of life and how players should live,” he continued.

“Like when he spoke about players having different girlfriends, he is getting into players’ heads on and off the field as well, if a coach does that, he creates a national team that will see players respecting the flag.”

Fish says that success is overdue for Bafana Bafana and fans and even those involved are tired of talking about the 1996 team that won the Africa Cup of Nations at the FNB Stadium.

“Let’s have a team that qualifies for everything and win African Cup of Nations because we tired of talking about the class of 96. In this generation I’m proud of this and it gives us pride as a nation.”

FIFA have confirmed that SAFA’s protest over the officiating in their final World Cup qualifier against Ghana will be submitted to the Disciplinary Committee on 23 November 2021.

SAFA felt the final round clash against the Black Stars was unfairly influenced and claim there were incidents to prove their suspicion of match-fixing.
