Ghana come into this qualifier against Bafana Bafana needing just a win to make it to the next round, but that task has been made a lot harder.

Bafana Bafana with fate in their own hands

Bafana Bafana clinched an important 1-0 victory over neighbours Zimbabwe at the FNB Stadium on Thursday evening which saw them go three points clear of Ghana at the summit of group G. Coincidently, just a few hours earlier, the Black Stars were playing visitors to Ethiopia at the very same stadium. Their 1-1 draw saw them losing ground on and could prove damaging on Sunday.

Ghana, however, will be grateful to their goals scored and goal difference, as it means, the damage of Thursday’s result was not irreparable by any stretch. Bafana Bafana are still in the driving seat, however, knowing that avoiding defeat is the bare minimum that they would have to achieve in order to make it to the next around, although a victory would seem like the most ideal situation.

Ghana will have the luxury of the home advantage but not that of three stalwarts of the team to choose from. That is because The South African News can confirm that the likes Thomas Partey, Jonathan Mensah and Gideon Mensah are all unavailable for selection. 3 FM Radio sports presenter David Kofi Tei gave the Black Stars squad update to the publication.

Triple boost confirmed in Ghana

“Everyone is in good shape at the moment. No injuries to report on from (Ghana) camp. Apart from, Thomas Partey, Jonathan Mensah and Gideon Mensah who all picked up injuries after the call up and so they couldn’t make it to camp” Tei confirmed.

Tei then goes further on the Ghana players and Partey especially.

They had crossed their fingers on Partey

“They, didn’t even make it for the Ethiopia game. We expected that Partey was going to make it for the South Africa (Bafana Bafana) game but he couldn’t” Tei concluded.

Partey missing is set to be a big blow for Ghana as the holding midfielder’s availability for Arsenal has also coincided with their upturn of fortunes. Mensah, who played in South Africa for Free State Stars years back, will also be a big miss for the Black Stars at the back, and the likes of Percy Tau and Keagan Dolly will be licking their lips.
