BREAKING! Orlando Pirates midfielder Goodman Mosele goes AWOL and ignores Bafana Bafana call up!

Orlando Pirates midfielder Goodman Mosele has gone AWOL and ignored a Bafana Bafana call up according to coach Hugo Broos.

Orlando Pirates midfielder Goodman Mosele has gone AWOL and ignored a Bafana Bafana call up according to coach Hugo Broos. 

The Pirates midfielder had been rewarded by Broos with a Bafana Bafana call up following recent good form, but Mosele has now gone AWOL. 

Mosele has disappeared ahead of Bafana’s qualifies

Bafana Bafana are scheduled to take on Ethiopia in back-to-back 2022 Qatar World Cup Qualifiers. The first of those matches is set to take take place in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on October 9, before the two sides then come back to do battle at the FNB Stadium in the South African leg. Mosele will now no longer be in line to participate having not pitched up to the national team camp.

Mosele’s absence has left Broos bewildered with the veteran Belgian mentor since replacing the former Baroka player with Supersport United midfielder Jesse Donn who was initially named as part of the 34-man preliminary squad. The DStv Premiership rookie has now added more gloss to the start of his maiden season in the topflight, with his maiden call up. 

Broos comments

“Sadly Goodman (Mosele) has absconded, we have tried reaching him to no avail and this is extremely disappointing. We are very happy that Jesse Donn has heeded the call and reported for duty almost immediately,” said Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos

Mosele is not the only player to miss out on the national team camp, with Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mosa Lebusa also pulling out of the team with an injury. The centre back has since been replaced by another Supersport United player and South Africa u23 star Luke Fleurs. The 21-year-old who impressed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics was also part of the preliminary squad and earns his first full call up to the senior national team.
