Bafana hit by bizarre disruption before Sierra Leone match

Bafana Bafana are set to take on Sierra Leone on Saturday, 24 September and Botswana on Tuesday, 27 September. Both matches will take place at FNB Stadium and kick off at 15:00.

With South Africa preparing for these all-important clashes, coach Hugo Broos has again highlighted some disorganisation that meant the national team apparently could not train at Dobsonville Stadium on Monday.

“I didn’t know we couldn’t train on the pitch today (Monday). If you ask me where are we going to train, I can’t answer you because we didn’t do it [mess up the arrangements wrong],” Broos said as SA held a press conference at Dobsonville Stadium on Monday.

TimesLIVE further reports that some officials didn’t book the ground as they were meant to, but this was later denied by Safa CEO Tebogo Motlanthe amidst contrasting information.

SMSA managing director Bertie Grobbelaar confirmed the stadium was not ready, and suggested Safa had not booked a training session at the ground for Monday.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed on Saturday that Bafana Bafana assistant coach Cedomir Janevski has officially resigned.

Janevski arrived in SA last year as one of the two assistant coaches to Bafana head coach Hugo Broos, but he is now set to leave his post to head back to Europe as head coach of Cyprian club AEL Limassol.

Motlanthe said after discussions with Bafana coach Hugo Broos, they agreed to part ways with Janevski.
