ICYMI: Why Broos believes standard of PSL is just not good enough!

Bafana boss Hugo Broos has slammed the standards of football in the PSL, as well as the quality of local players.

Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana recently lost their opening 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier 2-1 against Morocco. It was the second consecutive qualification campaign that Bafana Bafana have started off with a defeat (2-0 against Ghana ahead of AFCON 2021).

REVEALED: THREE SA TEAMS INTERESTED IN PITSO MOSIMANE!

However, this time around it feels as if Bafana Bafana are destined to qualify as there are now only three countries in their Group K following the banishment of Zimbabwe.

The third country is Liberia who are one of the minnows of African – and world – football. The top two countries in each group will progress to next year’s tournament in the Ivory Coast.

Post-match Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos said he was “not disappointed by the performance, just the result”, but he will now be desperate to ensure there is a comfortable victory when South Africa face Liberia this weekend.

TRANSFER TALK: TWO MORE KEY SIGNINGS TO COME FOR PIRATES?

Broos has hit out at the quality of South Africa’s local football competition

Speaking prior to this weekend’s match, Broos didn’t mince his words as he once again launched into tirade, which ranged from criticism of the PSL and Percy Tau, to hitting back at the comments made recently by Pitso Mosimane.

“At that moment, I don’t understand why you have to criticise a colleague,” Broos said in reference to Mosimane. “I was very disappointed in him about that.”

Mosimane, who recently parted ways with Al Ahly, had recently highlighted how a lack of communication over Percy Tau from Broos was less than ideal.

Interestingly, Tau was another person who Broos spoke about.

“We don’t have those quality players that are playing in Europe. Let’s face the problem that the level of the PSL is not high enough. Percy Tau is one of the best players in South Africa but he can’t succeed in Al Ahly. This is not good.

“It’s time now to face the real problem. What is the real problem in South Africa? The real problem is that we don’t have those high-quality players,” added Broos.

“We don’t have those players like our three last opponents – Ghana, France, and Morocco. When you see those teams, Ghana – 90 percent of their players were from Europe.

“France, I don’t have to explain… Morocco, when you see their selection, there was only one player of the Champions League-winning team Wydad Casablanca, which was the goalkeeper – I think that says enough.”
