1. RONWEN WILLIAMS – 8.5/10

Williams made several crucial saves in the first-half to keep his side in front at halftime.

He led from the front with his performance on the pitch, inspiring his teammates throughout the match. He also provided quality service to his players from the back and could do very little about Getaneh Kebede’s freekick from close-range.

2. NYIKO MOBBIE – 7/10

Mobbie whipped in several crosses early on, setting the tone for a positive attacking display.

He looked secure on the right and his long throw in lead to Bafana’s crucial second goal.

21. TERRENCE MASHEGO – 6/10

Mashego had a nervy start to the game which is understandable given that it was his debut.

He grew into the game as it progressed and showed plenty of promise on defence, making some solid tackles. Broos will be pleased with his decision to give Mashego his first cap.

3. RUSHINE DE REUCK – 6/10

It was definitely not his best performance for South Africa. De Reuck missed a tackle that almost cost his side a goal but was saved by Williams excellent block from point-blank.

He did not do much wrong afterwards as his partnership with Mashego started to build.

4. SIYANDA XULU – 6.5/10

Xulu had Bafana’s first real chance of the game after a brilliant Teboho Mokeona free kick but his shot was headed wide.

He provided calm with his experience at the back, guiding his young defenders when ever Ethiopia attacked.

14. MOTHOBI MVALA – 8/10

Mvala put in one of his best displays for the national side. He provided balance on attack and defense. The Sundowns player provided several attacking crosses early on. He brought balance to the attack and defence, tracking back regularly when needed.

Mvala scored the important second goal to give Bafana the lead shortly after conceding an equalizer.

5. TEBOHO MOKEONA – 7/10

Mokeona continues to put in strong showings for the national side.

His set-piece resulted in a howler from the Ethiopian goalkeeper. He was solid in the midfield and linked up well with Mvala.

15. ETHAN BROOKS – 5/10

Brooks did not create many chances for his strikers. His starting position will be under threat after a serious of average displays for the national team.

Yusuf Maart replaced him and brought on more energy and creativity when he came onto the pitch. He did not do much wrong but lacked the attacking spark his strikers needed.

11. THABISO KUTUMELA 6.5/10

Kutumela was a last minute replacement for Vincent Pule who got injured during training.

He gave away the set-piece that lead to the goal but was a constant source of positivity and confidence.

12. BONGUKUHLE HLONGWANE – 7/10

Hlongwane continues to offer up pace and skill upfront for Bafana.

He lost the ball early on and but Williams spared his blushes. Hlongwane is a constant threat on attack and and brings tremendous positivity and excitement into the national side.

7. TSHEGOFATSO MABASA – 6/10

He was subbed in the 35th minute by Victor Letsoalo.

Mabasa was calm on the ball when he did play but did not provide any clear cut chances or threaten the Ethiopian defense during his time on the field.

6. YUSUF MAART – 7/10

Maart brought on a lot of energy when he came on for Brooks. His fleet-footed skills skills kept the opposition guessing.

He provided the assist for Evidence Makgopa to wrap up the three points in Ethiopia.

17. VICTOR LETSOALO – 6/10

Letsoalo replaced Mabasa in the first half but did not bring on the impact we have come to expect.

It was a quite display by his standards although he did not get much supply either.

9. EVIDENCE MAKGOPA – 7.5/10

Makgopa has a massive impact from the moment he came onto the field late in the second half.

He scored the goal that wrapped up the game and hit the crossbar moments before after Hlongwane fed in a well-timed delivery. Makgopa will be knocking at the door of the starting lineup after this display.
