‘I’m good enough for Bafana Bafana, How old is Monare?’ says Zungu

Oh no he didn’t! Former Bafana Bafana star Bongani Zungu has questioned Hugo Broos for excluding him from the national side based on age.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has contradicted himself in his age criteria selection, according to Bongani Zungu.

ZUNGU SAYS HE DESERVES TO BE IN THE BAFANA BAFANA TEAM

As The South African reported about a week ago, Broos named his squad to play two friendly games against Guinea and France in Europe on Friday and Tuesday.

Asked about his decision to exclude previous regulars like Themba Zwane, Andile Jali and Bongani Zungu, the Belgian coach told the media that he is building a younger Bafana Bafana team.

But one or two selections in the squad include older players such as Thabang Monare (32), Veli Mothwa (30), and Siyanda Xulu (30).

The decisions have left Zungu obviously fuming for being left out as a 29-year-old.

“How old is Thabang Monare?” He is older than me (32),” Zungu said in Soccer Laduma’s latest issue.

“So it is not about that. When you are good, you are good. When you deserve it, you deserve it because you are good enough.

“I believe I am good enough to play for Bafana, maybe it’s about the style of play or whatever.

“If [Itumeleng] Khune can play regularly for Chiefs, and we know he is in the team and is fit he is a top player, he can be in the national team.

“I heard about that, younger players are been given a chance, but he has picked Monare and some players that are older than me or are my age.

“There was Hlanti as well (before he got injured). Look the coach knows where to find me. I will continue to work hard. I will do it for myself,” he added.

FORMER SA STAR MPHELA SLAMS FRANCE MATCH IDEA

Bafana Bafana fans are incredibly excited to see national side take on France next week, but Katlego Mphela sounds like he will find better things to do that night.

“Perhaps they will grab a result against Guinea.

“Asking Bafana Bafana to beat France is a tough task where I think there is no chance.

“Traveling to France is actually a waste of resources. How many international friendly games have we played and there is still no difference.” Read the full story here.
