Bafana Bafana assistant coach Helman Mkhalele has announced a 20-man squad for the 2021 COSAFA Cup tournament.

A number of high-profile players who are seen as future Bafana Bafana stars have made the cut alongside those who have been there before.

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma is in the squad alongside Golden Arrows’ Sifiso Mlungwana as Mkhalele decided to take only two shot-stoppers for the tournament.

There were no surprises as Mkhalele named players who shone for their respective clubs regardless of where they finished in the league last season.

TS Galaxy, Swallows FC, Baroka, and Black Leopards are also represented in the latest squad with players from Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United also making the squad.

Vincent Pule, 29, is the oldest player in the current Bafana Bafana squad followed by AmaZulu’s Siyethemba Sithemba who’s 28-years-old.

Mkhalele opted to name only two strikers in his squad, Tshegofatso Mabasa and Goodman Mosele.

Mkhalele said Bafana Bafana’s objective is to win the COSAFA Cup which he believes will set the tone for the 2022 Soccer World Cup qualifiers.

“The objective is to win the COSAFA Cup and that will help us with our preparations for World Cup qualifiers,” said Mkhalele.
