Singh who started Hugo Broos’ first Bafana Bafana 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup qualifier, has endured a tough period for both club and country since.
Substituted during that away game to Zimbabwe and dropped the next game against Ghana, Singh was then dropped from the next Bafana Bafana squad by Broos, citing issues with his passport. He then did not make the final 24-man squad for the current qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Ghana, despite being named in the initial preliminary squad.
Perhaps, it was not a surprise that Singh was not selected to the final Bafana Bafana squad, but perhaps that he was selected to start with. Singh was having a torrid time at Copenhagen during that same period, with talk of him being overweight being the latest narrative doing the rounds as to why he has been struggling since making his move to the Danish top flight.
Last week, Singh was admitted to hospital with the Copenhagen coach remaining tight lipped as to what the actual illness was. But the player’s agent has since come out to reveal what it was.
“He (Singh) was mentally broken, and for me to see he was depressed. depression is hard to measure, it’s not like fever, you can not measure depression. But I think he went through a depressed phase”

“The period after Paok game was difficult for him. Dealing with being replaced by five minutes hit him mentally and he understood what the coach was doing but he wanted to be the one who made difference and the one who played an important role for the team”

“He came into the hospital with a high fever and felt very weak, but there was nothing specific to conclude, he was just very weak and had a very high fever” said Singh’s agent Lorenz Sleeuwaert to Danish Publication Ekstra Bladet.
