Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says former captain Thulani Hlatshwayo can win back his place in the national team after the new boss left the Orlando Pirates star out of his first squad.

Broos named a 19-man squad for the upcoming international friendly against Uganda on June 10 at Orlando Stadium.

Hlatshwayo’s name was not among those announced, but Hugo Broos has assured the national team captain he is not out of contention to make the team for the 2022 Soccer World Cup qualification campaign starting later this year.

“I was getting a lot of information in the last few days, I talked with my assistant (Helman Mkhalele is the new Bafana head coach) and I made a list, I didn’t look at who was captain,” said Hugo Broos, as quoted by The Citizen.

“I just wanted a good list, it is for the first time and we will see. In September (for the start of the 2022 Soccer World Cup qualifiers) there will be other names, I am sure, and maybe the captain will be there again. I also heard he didn’t have a good season, but he is not forgotten.”

Bafana Bafana are ranked 75th in the latest FIFA rankings while Uganda are 84th.
