Letsoalo who was the subject of intense interest from both Chiefs and Pirates in the recently concluded transfer window, has been left out of the Bafana Bafana squad.

Letsoalo Bafana Bafana snub a shock

The omission of Letsoalo came as a surprise to many in the South African football fraternity, with the marksman having notched up eleven goals so far this season. That figure effectively makes him the most prolific South African in the DStv Premiership campaign this season. It is, perhaps for this reason that his omission from the current Bafana Bafana squad was perplexing for many.

This was made more so by Broos’ decision to include Baroka FC striker Evidence Makgopa, despite the lanky forward not being as prolific as Letsoalo so far this season. The Bafana Bafana coach then gave his explanation for the omission of the Royal AM striker.

Broos explains

“We’re(Bafana Bafana) playing friendly games and I will try some things, I know what Victor can do, I know his qualities, he’s not really at his best shape, I’ve seen the last few games, he’s not the Victor Letsoalo before Christmas, he doesn’t have the same quality at the moment,” Broos said during his squad announcement on SABC Sport.

Possible return revealed

“It’s normal, you can’t play the whole season at the very highest level, it’s always here and then down and I think Victor at the moment he’s down – so it’s an opportunity not to take him now to give chances to others and I get the opportunity to see them. So I leave him out, it’s because he’s not in the best shape and because it’s friendlies and I want to try some other players to see how good they are. So I don’t think he needs to be sad about that, I know him and I’m sure he’ll be back in June.” Broos concluded on the matter.

It now remains to be seen if Letsoalo can go on to rediscover the form that saw him as a regular for Bafana Bafana as well as catch the interest of both Chiefs and Pirates, between now and June.
