PICTURES: Bafana and Banyana bring back 1996 kit for 2023

Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana have officially unveiled their jerseys for the new season wit the return of a classic kit design from 1996.

Bafana and Banyana have officially revealed their new kits, according to iDiskiTimes. Most noticeably, SAFA have brought back the famous 1996 AFCON jersey design as a tribute to our legends that won the 1996 AFCON.

On Friday morning, the new home and away kits were unveiled. Check out all our new kits!

The Home kit is referred to as “The Nation Builder”

Furthermore, the designer, Lwazi Ngcungama, imprinted the shape of the SA flag on the front and back of the jersey to emphasize the idea of nationhood.

SA’S NEW HOME JERSEY

The Away kit is referred to as ‘An ode to WAFCON ’22”.

“In this Away jersey,  Lwazi Ngcungama used the pattern of the South African National Flower – the Protea. The Protea is expanded and turned into a vector to create the unique style you see in the jersey,”

“Not only does the pattern carry the National Flower of South Africa but it also carries the colours of which Banyana Banyana achieved success in the recent Women’s African Cup of Nations,”

“The green and gold is symbolic in that Banyana Banyana won the competition wearing the green/away SAFA x Le Coq Sportif playing jersey 2021/2022,” LeCoqSportif stated on the same publication.

AWAY KIT – ‘AN ODE TO WAFCON 2022’

Finally, SAFA have brought back the famous 1996 jersey design.

This jersey is referred to as the “Legacy jersey” as it is a reminder of the legacy left by our 1996 AFCON winners. Therefore, the design is brought back after 27 years with a modern slick touch to it.
