Arsenal fans are starting to wonder what went wrong as look likely to fall just short of a famous Premier League title as the season plays out.

The Premier League season is fast approaching the business end but poor Gunners fans are wishing they could go back in time. The 2-2 draw recently between Liverpool and Arsenal was absolutely key. It was backed up by another draw as London rivals West Ham held them again to a 2-2 stalemate.

And don’t forget the fixture on 26 April when the Gunners go to face Manchester City. The defending champions still have a game in hand too.

ARSENAL REMAINING FIXTURES

  • 21 Apr: Southampton (H)
  • 26 Apr: Man City (A)
  • 29 Apr: Chelsea (H)
  • 07 May: Newcastle (A)
  • 14 May: Brighton (H)
  • 20 May: Nottingham Forest (A)
  • 28 May: Wolves (H)

The remaining fixtures aren’t too tough beyond the City clash but there is a visit to Newcastle, a side rejuvenated and hunting a Champions League place. They recently beat Manchester United 2-0 at home so it goes to show how difficult that encounter will be.

A home tie against Chelsea will be uncomfortable while their next match isn’t a certain given a visit London rivals West Ham is always tricky.

ARSENAL AND THE PREMIER LEAGUE: IT CHANGED SO QUICKLY

If City beat Brighton in their delayed game, it puts them on back of Arsenal. If City continue to dominate Arsenal in their head to head clashes and win that game at home, then the points at the top are even and the defending champions are leading via goal difference.

All of this comes about because the Gunners failed to hold onto their lead at Anfield and then that stumble at the Hammers.

What should’ve been their first victory at the Merseyside stadium since 2012 turned into a nightmare as they were forced to cling to a point.

The draw spoiled what would have been the Gunners’ eighth consecutive win and a chance to move eight points clear of second-place Manchester City.

“Super intense match,” Mikel Arteta said.

“We started very well, scored the first and the second and that was the moment to kill the game. Before halftime we gave them hope and they generated belief.

“The second half was a very different story. We gave every ball away in dangerous areas and allowed dangerous results and big transition moments. Then you have to suffer.”

Arsenal last earned a point away at City back in 2016 which goes to show why the home team will be favourites once again.
