Al Ahly’s El Khatib: Mosimane one of the 50 best coaches in the world!

Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib has further reiterated his support for Pitso Mosimane despite calls for the coach to be sacked.

Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib has further reiterated his support for Pitso Mosimane despite calls for the coach to be sacked.

A number of Al Ahly legends, including Samir Kamouna, have consistently been critical of Mosimane, but El Khatib is having none of that.

In a press conference at Al Ahly’s base in Cairo on Monday, El Khatib said Mosimane is one of the 50 best coaches in the world right now.

And he believes Al Ahly have a strong technical team with Mosimane leading them while he also feels the current squad is capable of achieving success.

Mosimane’s failure to defend the Egyptian Premier League as well as the Egyptian Super Cup is now water under the bridge as El Khatib looks to the future filled with possibilities.

“Mosimane is one of the 50 best coaches in the world at the moment,” said El Khatib.

“We must forget what happened and think about what is to come. We have a very strong technical staff and a group of players with high capabilities, and all of this requires a strong start in the spirit of the red jersey,” continued El Khatib.

Furthermore, El Khatib doesn’t doubt Mosimane’s love for Al Ahly, saying he saw the love that the Kagiso-born mentor has for the club when he first spoke to him about joining the Egyptian giants.

“I felt how much he loves the club and appreciates the club’s history. He made history in Sundowns, and when we called him, he was keen to come to the club which he described as the ‘African Club of the Century’,” revealed El Khatib.

Mosimane and Al Ahly recently reached an agreement to re-open contract extension negotiations at the end of the 2021-22 season.

The 57-year-old tactician still has a year left on his current deal, and he is sitting with a two-year deal from Al Ahly.
