Al Ahly to sack Pitso’s successor, new coach identified – report

Al Ahly are reportedly in the process of sacking Pitso Mosimane’s successor, barely two months after appointing him as head coach.

Al Ahly are reportedly in the process of sacking Pitso Mosimane‘s successor, barely two months after appointing him as head coach.

According to le360Sport, Ricardo Soares‘ days at Al Ahly are numbered after his tenure was deemed an unsatisfactory by the management.

Soares joined Al Ahly on a two-year deal on 1 July, and he has only been in charge of 12 competitive matches for the Red Devils.

The 47-year-old Portuguese mentor has steered Al Ahly to seven wins, and three draws while he suffered just two defeats.

One of those defeats came in the Egyptian Cup final against arch-rivals Zamalek; the fixture Mosimane never lost during two-year stint with Al Ahly.

WHO HAS AL AHLY IDENTIFIED AS POSSIBLE CANDIDATE?

Now, according to the Arab publication, Al Ahly have earmarked former Morocco national team coach Vahid Halilhodzic as a possible replacement for Soares.

Halilhodzic was surprisingly sacked by Morocco despite helping them qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.

Halilhodzic is an experienced mentor who, so far, has helped four different countries qualify for the World Cup but has only been to one tournament with Algeria.

He first helped Ivory Coast qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup but he was fired on 27 February 2010, some four months before the tournament.

Japan became the second country to fire Halilhodzic in 2018, just months before the start of the global event in Russia, and Morocco recently became the country to deny him that opportunity.
