Al Ahly legend urges club to sell ‘non-quality’ Percy Tau!

Al Ahly legend Taha Ismail has sensationally urged the club to sell forward Percy Tau, as he believes he is not of the required standard.

Tau who joined Al Ahly only at the beginning of this season was part of the Egyptian Red Devils side that lost the CAF Champions League on Monday.

Al Ahly fell at the last hurdle

Al Ahly and South African coach Pitso Mosimane reached their third Champions League final in a row, a first for Tau in the colours of the Egyptians. Unfortunately for the former Mamelodi Sundowns duo, they could not replicate the success they shared with the Brazilians in the tournament’s final in 2016.

Al Ahly were firmly second best against against their Moroccan opponents Wydad Casablanca, who beat them 2-1 on the night. In doing so, they ensured that the continental football double goes to Morocco, with RS Berkane beating Orlando Pirates on penalties in the CAF Confederation Cup just the week before. 

Ismail wants Tau gone!

Now it would seem as if tensions are still running high in the Al Ahly camp over their loss to Wydad, with the latest comments from Ismail seemingly illustrating just that. Reacting to that loss, Ismail has singled out a couple of players that he would like to see his former club dispose of. One of those players, being Tau, notably.

“Al Ahly should sell Ali Maaloul, he’s a big name and the club can financially benefit from him, Dieng should also be sold, and after that, they should buy other high-quality players. Percy Tau is not a high-quality player as well, he should be replaced. We need to bring better players to Al Ahly.” Said Ismail to Egyptian football publication KingFut, not mincing his words. 

Can he put it behind him?

Tau had only just gotten himself back into the headlines for all the right reasons, having been amongst the goals and assists for Al Ahly in recent games. The ‘Lion of Judah’ has also seen himself recalled to Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana side, having overcome his long list of troubling injuries.
