Al Ahly fine Pitso, backroom staff & players over R280 000 after latest loss

Al Ahly have fined Pitso Mosimane and all his backroom staff, the players and the technical director following their loss to Tala’ea El Gaish.

Al Ahly have fined Pitso Mosimane and all his backroom staff, the players and the technical director following their loss to Tala’ea El Gaish.

Mosimane and Co. were fined 300 000 Egyptian pounds each which is just over R281 000 for missing out on the Egyptian Super Cup on Tuesday night.

Al Ahly were held to a 0-0 draw by El Gaish after 120 minutes of football at Borg El Arab Stadium before losing 3-2 on penalties.

And the club, through its president Mohmoud El Khatib, confirmed the fine imposed on Mosimane-led technical team and his stars in a statement.

Al Ahly went into the encounter against El Gaish as strong favourites as they had previously won the Egyptian Super Cup 11 times from 14 attempts.

However, it wasn’t to be as Mosimane’s charges didn’t do enough to wrap up the game in regulation time despite dominating the game.

The latest developments certainly put Mosimane under immense pressure given that this is a second successive trophy he’s missed out on.

In late August, Al Ahly surrendered their league title to bitter rivals Zamalek in what was Mosimane’s first full season in charge of the team.
