This after the official CAF prize money for the top four sides was confirmed.

Senegal beat Egypt 4-2 on penalties after proving to be the best team at the delayed 2021 tournament.

The West Africa side are the highest ranked Africa side in the FIFA rankings and boast a star-studded squad including the likes of Liverpool striker Sadio Mane and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Coach Aliou Cisse’s men are now set to pocket $5 million (R77 million) in prize money from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), per SportsGrail

The top prize showed an increase of $500 000 from the $4.5 million won by 2019 AFCON champions Algeria.

In addition, as reported by The South African website, Senegal President Macky Sall gifted each member of the squad $87 000 (R1.3 million) as well as land in the country.

Runners-up Egypt will receive $2.75 million (R42 million) for their efforts, while the two losing semi-finalists, Cameroon and Burkina Faso, will take home $2.2 million (R34 million) apiece.

The teams that lost out in the quarter-finals – Gambia, Morocco, Tunisia and Equatorial Guinea – will receive $1.8 million (R28 million) each.
