SAIDS imposes sanctions on ELEVEN SA doping cheats – some are very well known!

SAIDS imposed no fewer than 11 sanctions on a number of well-known South African sportsmen and women during the period April 2020 to July 2021:

– An eight (8) year sanction from all sport on the SA Rugby player Ngonidzashe Chidoma following an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Chidoma tested positive for the presence of Exogenous Testosterone and its Metabolites Androsterone, at least one of the Adiols, 5aAdiol and/or 5bAdiol and Etiocholanone. This is Mr. Chidoma’s second Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV). His period of ineligibility began on 17 August 2019 (from the date of sample collection) and will serve until and including 17 August 2027.

– A four (4) year sanction from all sport on the Cycling South Africa (CSA) athlete Lynette Burger following an anti-doping rule violation. Ms. Burger tested positive for the presence of 19-norandrosterone and 19-noreticholanolone. Her period of ineligibility began on 26 November 2019 (from the date of notification) and will serve until and including 26 November 2023.

– A four (4) year sanction from all sport on the Athletics South Africa (ASA) athlete Ben Matiso following an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Matiso tested positive for the presence of Testosterone and its metabolites, Androsterone, Eticholanone, 5 a-Androstanediol and 5 b-Androstanediol. His period of ineligibility began on 16 February 2020 (from the date of sample collection) and will serve until and including 16 February 2024.

– A four (4) year sanction from all sport on the ASA athlete Tebogo Mamathu following an anti-doping rule violation. Ms. Mamathu tested positive for the presence of Oxandrolone, and its metabolites, Ox M1(17-hydroxymethyl-17-methyl-18-nor-2-oxa-5-androsta-13-en-3-one. Her period of ineligibility began on 23 February 2020 (from the date of sample collection) and will serve until and including 23 February 2024.

– A twenty (20) Month sanction from all sport on the ASA athlete Mohau Japhta Mosoenyane following an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Mosoenyane tested positive for the presence of 19-norandrosterone, 19-noretchiolanolone, Nandrolone and 5b-Methyltestosterone, a metabolite of Methyltestosterone. His period of ineligibility began on 26 February 2020 (from the date of notification) and will serve until and including 26 October 2021.

– A three (3) year 6 Months sanction from all sport on the International Federation Bodybuilding South Africa (IFBBSA) athlete Aadil Ahmed Khan, for Evading Sample Collection, or without compelling justification, refusing or failing to submit to Sample Collection after notification as authorized in the Anti-Doping Rules. Mr. Khan is prohibited from Competing, Coaching and being involved in the Administration (holding office) in the sport of Bodybuilding, as well as in any other sport in South Africa and Internationally. His period of ineligibility began on 11 November 2020  and will serve until and including 4 May 2023.

– A seven (7) year sanction from all sport on the ASA athlete Simon Makagwe following an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Makagwe tested positive for the presence of RAD-140. This is Mr. Makagwe’s second Anti-Doping Rule Violation. His period of ineligibility began on 20 February 2021 (from the date of sample collection) and will serve until and including 20 February 2028.

– A three (3) year, 6 months sanction from all sport on the South African Powerlifting Federation (SAPF) athlete Johannes Lazenby following an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Lazenby tested positive for the presence of Drostanolone Metabolites; Mesterolone Metabolites, Stanozolol and its Metabolites 3’-OH-stanozolol, 4beta-OH-stanozolol, 16beta-OH-stanozolol and 6alpha-hydroxy-androstenedion. His period of ineligibility began on 20 May 2020 (from the date of notification) and will serve until and including 20 November 2024.

– A two (2) year sanction from all sport on the SA Rugby player Emile Klassen following an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Klassen tested positive for the presence of 3-hydroxy-4metoxy-tamoxifen, a metabolite of Tamoxifen. His period of ineligibility began on 17 May 2021 (from the date of admission) and will serve until and including 16 May 2023.

– A three (3) year sanction from all sport on the SA Rugby player Nande Lucas following an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Lucas tested positive for the presence of 19-norandrosterone and 19-noreticholanolone. His period of ineligibility began on 9 June 2021 (from the date of notification) and will serve until and including 9 June 2023.

– A one (1) year sanction from all sport on the SAPF athlete Matt Bekker following an anti-doping rule violation. Mr. Bekker tested positive for the presence of Carboxy-THC (commonly known as Marijuana / Dagga). His period of ineligibility began on 25 June 2021 (from the date of admission) and will serve until and including 25 July 2021.
