If that wasn’t bad enough, over in the Top 14 in France, Ryno Pieterse brought more embarrassment to his team and Mzansi with the worst late ‘tackle’ seen in living memory.

Coming on as a substitute for Castres against Bordeaux-Begles, 23-year-old Witbank-born lock Ryno Pieterse, who previously played for the Bulls, was shown a straight red card – and rightly so – for a late flying hit on Maxime Lucu.

One can only hope Pieterse is fined heavily and receives a lengthy ban for his actions, something former Test referee Nigel Evans has called for.

The match ended 23-all.
