Sharks centre Lukhanyo Am produced a moment of game-breaking individual brilliance during a thrilling victory over the Bulls at Loftus.

The Sharks held off a late fightback from the Bulls to win 29-22 and take a full five points from their trip.

One of their four tries was a cut above the rest as Lukhanyo Am showed terrific skills, vision and athleticism to score a try of the season candidate.

Am snatched the ball off a restart that was misjudged by the Bulls forwards and then navigated a narrow corridor with a neat little grubber which he collected to score.

Both sides saw a player sent off in which changed the nature of the contest twice.

The Bulls came out fighting and scored two late tries. However, David Kriel missed both kicks before Curwin Bosch slotted a penalty goal after the hooter to clinch the match.

Sharks coach Sean Everitt won’t be happy with the way his team allowed their hosts back into the contest.

The result leaves the Sharks in ninth place on the United Rugby Championship table, two points behind the Stormers who top the South African shield after a bonus-point win over the Lions earlier in the day.

In the URC, the top eight teams on the overall log will progress to the quarterfinals.

The Stormers and Sharks are now very much in contention for those knockouts.

Meanwhile, the Bulls and Lions are not yet dead and buried but things aren’t looking great for the Gauteng teams.

In two weeks time the South African teams return to Europe for their second tours of the URC campaign.

The Sharks and Bulls head to Italy to face Benetton and Zebre, respectively.

Ireland plays host to the Stormers and Lions who have matches against Connacht and Leinster.
