URC: Kick-off times for SA teams as playoffs take shape

It’s particularly crunch time when it comes to the playoff permutations in the URC for the Bulls and Stormers this weekend.

Three of the four South African franchises will have everything to play for on Saturday when they take the field in the penultimate pool round of the URC.

Most particularly, it is the Bulls and Stormers that will have plenty at stake as the knockout stage looms on the horzon.

Jake White’s team from Pretoria still have a chance of finishing in the top two for a home quarter-final, and possible home semi-final. The Bulls will enter their clash against Benetton at Loftus Versfeld as the favourites, on form, and with home ground advantage.

In addition, the Bulls can also do their Gauteng neighbours a big favour when they host Benetton in Pretoria in the first outing for the SA sides on a jam-packed Saturday. That’s because Benetton currently occupy the last qualification berth in eighth place on the standings, four log points ahead of the Lions.

Having said that, the Lions face a massive task against the log-leading Glasgow Warriors in Johannesburg, and so their playoff dream may well come to an end this weekend.

The Stormers and Bulls are likely to represent South Africa in the URC playoffs

As it is, the Stormers still harbour hopes of a top four finish for a home quarter-final. John Dobson’s charges will have their work cut out for them, though, in a repeat of their semi-final last season against Connacht in Galway.

The Capetonians, however, will take confidence from the fact that they outplayed the Dragons in Newport last week, and with the stakes high for both teams, neither side is expected to give an inch.
