The Stormers are likely to lose the services of exciting young utility back Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu for next weekend’s URC final against Munster.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu looks to have been shelved after suffering a suspected broken hand in the Western Province Currie Cup win over the Pumas in Athlone on Friday.

After the game, John Dobson, the coach of both Western Province and the Stormers, told reporters that Feinberg-Mngomezulu could have suffered a broken hand during the 22-14 win.

“It doesn’t look very good, his hand, I think he has gone for X-rays now,” Dobson said according to Rugby365.

“It might be a fracture … he was probably going to be involved next week (against Munster) so that’s a bit of a blow.”

In the Stormers’ 43-25 URC semi-final victory over Connacht last weekend, Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who can offer cover for flyhalf, center, fullback and even the wings, came off the bench.

However, Dobson insisted that he had no regrets in starting the adaptable back in this weekend’s Currie Cup.

The coach felt that the young player needed more minutes under his belt and said that they wouldn’t beat themselves up over the selection.

“He needed to play, [we’re] not beating ourselves up. He didn’t play much last week, I think it was like six or seven minutes, so we needed to play him.”

When it comes time for the URC final, Dobson suggested that Western Province Currie Cup captain Jean-Luc du Plessis or fullback Clayton Blommetjies may offer backup and versatility.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu started the match against the Pumas at inside centre.

The victory over the Pumas moved Western Province up to fourth on the Currie Cup log in Round 11 action.
