Stormers sweating over availability of influential Springbok for URC semi-final showdown

Springbok Deon Fourie is in a race against time to be fit for Saturday’s United Rugby Championship semi-final clash between the Stormers and Connacht in Cape Town.

The Stormers drubbed the Bulls 33-21 in their quarter-final in Cape Town over the weekend to book their place in the last four of the competition, where they will come up against Connacht at the same venue on Saturday.

STORMERS INJURY UPDATE

In his first game back since suffering a fractured eye-socket, Fourie lasted just 45 against the Bulls before he was withdrawn from the action with what Stormers boss John Dobson has since revealed to be a hamstring strain.

Commenting on the severity of Fourie’s latest injury, Stormers assistant coach Dawie Snyman on Monday admitted that their is uncertainty over whether the player will be ready to go on Saturday and added management will make a call on his availability by the end of the week.

“We are going to give him the full week to make sure that he is 100%,” said Snyman during a Stormers media conference. “He felt his hamstring in the first half. He has gone for scans.

“He has hone for scans and at this stage, it looks quite positive. It’s all about how he recovers with a day or two to go still. Hopefully he will be alright.”

Snyman also confirmed that speedster Seabelo Senatla will not be considered for selection because he has not sufficiently recovered from the car accident he was involved in last week.
