The Stormers produced a late blitzkrieg to earn an epic 44-21 comeback win over battling Dragons at Rodney Parade in Newport.

The South Africans were made to work hard for their bonus-point victory as they trailed until the final quarter before blowing Dragons away with three late tries.

While the match had hung in the balance for the majority of the 80 minutes, the Stormers replacements made all the difference as the visitors pulled away in the final stages courtesy of Sacha Feinberg-Mgomezulu’s late brace.

MATCH RECAP

The home side dominated territory and possession in the early stages and opened up an 11-0 advantage thanks to an unconverted try and two penalties. The Stormers fought back, but it wasn’t enough to give them the lead just yet as they went into the break trailing 11-10.

The Dragons outscored the Stormers 10 points to three in the early stages of the second half to put the visitors 11 points adrift on the scoreboard.

But that was as good as it got for the Dragons, as the Stormers got their act together and piled on the pressure and points to get into a match-winning position.

Angelo Davids sped over for his second try of the game before Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s two-try heroics put the contest to bed in favour of hte visiting side.

Apart from the tries scored, Manie Libbok’s flawless seven from seven display off the kicking tee played a huge role in the Stormers’ success on the night.

URC PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Stormers full-back Warrick Gelant was central to his side’s attacking efforts in the final quarter but crucially it was his alertness that created their first try which buoyed them after a miserable start.
